A Hamilton man barred from public swimming areas or places where children under 16 could be found was caught travelling back and forth between an Oshawa beach and a boat moored offshore.

Durham Police Marine Unit officers on proactive patrol investigated an abandoned boat on Lake Ontario off Lakeview Park Beach last Friday afternoon and found a 44-year-old man making regular trips to the beach from his boat using a small tender.

The man, whose name was not released, was found to be breaching court conditions to remain away from any public swimming areas, or areas where persons under the age of 16 years are present.

He was arrested without incident and charged with failing to comply with a release order and operating a boat without a proper boater’s license.

The man was held for a bail hearing. There is no word from police if he is still in custody six days after the offence.
