A vintage Chevy Camaro parked just outside the closed-off section of road for Friday’s Kars on King event in downtown Oshawa is in need of some major repairs after a delivery truck crashed into it, crushing the car’s rear quarter panel.
There was plenty of chatter on social media about the incident, which happened just after 7 p.m. on Athol Street – just to the south of King Street and a road where many of the cars who didn’t register in time for the main event were parked.
Some of the talk on Facebook put the blame on the City for poor planning, while others put the onus for the accident on the truck driver. Witnesses said the driver was trying to avoid the cones as police were directing traffic when the Z28 Camaro was struck.
The end result is a classic car from a bygone era has an expensive repair bill and a truck driver has some explaining to do to his boss and his insurance company.
Kars on King is an annual event that draws hundreds of classic vehicles to downtown Oshawa streets for a show and shine, with tourists coming to the city from across Durham Region and beyond to look at the cars and to enjoy live entertainment and family activities.
