Twenty-five new COVID-19 cases in Durham; 14 from Whitby

An outbreak in Whitby fuelled more than half of Durham Region’s new caseload, with 14 of the 25 new cases reported originating in the town.

There are 40 active cases in Whitby, with 37 self-isolating and three in hospital. There are nine Durham residents in total hospitalized because of the virus, with one Pickering resident in ICU.

Active cases in the region number 199 and the Delta variant has now been identified in 588 people since it was first reported in Durham.

Pickering reported five new cases, Oshawa three, Ajax two, and Scugog one new case. Clarington did not report any new cases, but three residents remain in hospital.

The outbreak at Hillsdale Estates in Oshawa, which has already claimed two lives, is now down to sixteen active cases of 29. Eleven cases are now considered resolved.
