Two people were arrested last night in a stolen rental car in Oshawa.
The Dodge Ram pickup was reported stolen from Toronto on April 23. It was later tracked to the Highway 401 and Ritson Road area of Oshawa around 5 p.m.
Officers caught up to the truck near Ritson Road South and Lakeview Park Avenue. They managed to block the truck in and arrested two people without incident.
In searching the truck officers say they found a large amount of drugs including methamphetamine, fentanyl and cocaine.
Daniel Renaud, 33 of Bowmanville, and Ashley Gunn, 28 of Oshawa, are both charged with possession of stolen property and three counts of drug possession with intent to traffic.
Renaud is also charged with failure to report under the Sex Offender Information Registration Act, two counts of failure to appear in court, two counts of breaching release conditions and two counts related to breaching Christopher’s Law.
This legislation founded Ontario’s sex offender registry. It’s named for Christopher Stephenson, an 11-year-old Brampton boy who was abducted, sexually assaulted and murdered by a convicted sex offender in 1988. The law has been in effect since 2001.
Both Renaud and Gunn remain in custody until a bail hearing. Anyone with information can call police at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 2347 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
