Two men have been charged in a stolen car investigation in Ajax, one of whom hails from Milton.

The victim allegedly spotted the pair in his driveway around 1 a.m. on March 11 and confronted them. The pair hopped into a red car and fled the scene, according to Durham Regional Police.

Officers say they found the car speeding away from the area a short time later and followed. The car hit “excessive speed” and ultimately crashed into a road sign.

The officers approached the vehicle and found it had been abandoned. After a search of the area with a K-9 Unit, they found two suspects and arrested them without incident.

Hussein Alibrahim, 20 of Milton, and Oday Nomery, 26 of no fixed address, are both charged with attempted theft over $5000, and mischief under $5000. Nomery faces an additional charge of obstructing police. Both remain in custody.
