Two men have been charged with an alleged attempt to steal cars in Pickering.
Durham Regional Police say they were called to Shadybrook Drive, a residential neighbourhood near Kingston Road, for a stolen car investigation. When the officers arrived around 1:30 a.m., they claimed to have spotted the pair trying to steal a second car.
When the officers approached, police say the pair fled to the first stolen car and took off. However, they didn’t get far, crashing into a nearby electrical box. The pair then ran away on foot. Police say 10 homes in the area lost power due to the collision.
Police brought in the K-9 unit to search for the pair and the dog discovered a pair of suspects nearby.
Two 18-year-old men, one from London and one from Oshawa, face multiple charges. Police did not identify the individuals or specify the charges.
