Two men stabbed in Whitby, suspect in custody

Two men were stabbed in Whitby in the wee hours of the morning.

Shortly after 12:30 a.m. on Oct. 11, Durham Regional Police received reports of an armed man near Millstone Cr. and Forest Heights St. The area is a suburban neighbourhood with its own public school across the road.

When officers arrived they found two men suffering stab wounds. One of the men was arrested on scene. Both men were then taken to hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries. Police say this was an isolated incident and they have no further concerns for public safety.

Andre Schugt, 35 of Whitby, was charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon to commit an offence. He remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
