Two new COVID deaths reported in Ajax Thursday

COVID-19 cases held steady in Durham Region with 72 new cases reported, including 26 in the region’s new hotspot, Whitby.

There were also two deaths reported. Both were in Ajax. One was a patient at Lakeridge Health Ajax-Pickering.

Ajax and Oshawa each reported 14 new cases of the virus while the northern communities of Brock, Uxbridge and Scugog reported just one new case each. The active case count dropped slightly to 380.

There are still four outbreaks in retirement and long-term care homes with 16 people now affected. The largest outbreak is at Village of Taunton Mills in Pickering with nine patients and staff having tested positive.

An outbreak at Abbeylawn Manor in Pickering – now more than a month old – is now down to three people.
