Update 12:20 p.m.: The hold-and-secure order on the schools has been lifted. Police have one man in custody. However, they have still not specified the nature of their investigation or what the suspect has been charged with.

Two Pickering schools are on a hold-and-secure order amid a police investigation. Residents have also been advised to stay out of the area.

Durham Regional Police announced their ongoing investigation at 11 a.m. However, they did not specify the nature of the investigation.

They did share that two schools, Maple Ridge Public School and Pine Ridge Secondary School, are on a hold-and-secure to keep the students safely inside.

The schools are about a kilometre apart in the northern reaches of Pickering. Maple Ridge sits in the middle of a suburban neighbourhood on Bushmill St. while Pine Ridge is a little to the north on Halsey Ln. next to Beverley Morgan Park.
