Two tow trucks torched in Ajax

Tow truck turf wars are heating up in Ajax and police are on the hunt for suspects after two trucks were torched in separate incidents Monday night.

Durham Police responded to a vehicle fire in the driveway of a Middlecote Drive home in the Salem Road and Taunton Road area around 10 p.m. to find a Dodge Ram 3500 tow truck fully engulfed in flames. A suspect was seen running from the scene.

Ajax Fire also responded and were able to extinguish the blaze.

The suspect is described as male, tanned complexion, mid 20’s, 5’11” to 6′ tall and wearing a grey or white track suit.

A few hours later, officers responded to the driveway of a home on Seggar Avenue near Rossland Road and Westney Road to find a black 2020 GMC Sierra tow truck on fire. The vehicle was also fully engulfed but quickly extinguished by Ajax Fire and Emergency Services. There were no suspect descriptors in this incident.

There were no reported injuries in either incident and investigators are treating both incidents as arson.

There have been reports of tow trucks set on fire in Ajax each year since 2019.
