Uber driver from Whitby charged with sexual assault

Whitby man charged with sexual assault following Uber incident

A man from Whitby offering Uber ride services on Christmas Eve, was arrested and charged following an alleged sexual assault.

On Sunday (Dec. 24) Durham Regional Police responded to Taunton Road and Garden Street after receiving reports of a woman being sexually assaulted by the driver while being transported home.

Investigators say 32-year-old Anees Ashraf has been charged with two counts of sexual assault.

Ashraf was later released on an undertaking.

Police believe Ashraf may be continuing to offer ride sharing services under different transportation apps.

Authorities are in contact with these companies, but want to ensure there are no further victims.

In the interest of public safety, an image of the Ashraf has been posted.
