UPDATE: Halton Regional Police say that Nana-Yaw Asante, a 23-year-old Hamilton man believed to be mistakenly released from custody in Burlington, was located and arrested late Saturday in Oshawa without incident.


Hamilton Police had sought public assistance in locating Asante after he was mistakenly released from custody on Thursday (Oct. 10) following an unrelated court appearance in Burlington.

An arrest warrant was issued for unlawfully being at large, police said.

Asante is facing charges by the Ontario Provincial Police including attempted murder with a firearm.

Investigators described Asante as Black, 5-foot-5, and weighing 145 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. Authorities advised the public not to approach him and to call 911 if he was seen.
