An Uxbridge man, already charged with assault after a fight and subsequent suspicious fire at an apartment block in town last month, has now been charged with arson.

Tylor Bain, 28, was originally charged with assault after Durham Police responded to a fight call September 21 on Brock St. W. in Uxbridge. When officers arrived at the apartment, the building was on fire and spreading to multiple units. Numerous residents were displaced as a result of the fire damage. The office of the Ontario Fire Marshal was contacted and began an investigation.

Police also located a man with serious but non-life threatening injuries who was allegedly assaulted by the suspect. He was transported to a local hospital.

The investigation into the blaze determined the fire was set intentionally and Bain was then charged with arson with disregard fort human life.

He was released on an undertaking.
