A classic country estate just walking distance from the historic town of Uxbridge was the priciest property sold in Durham Region last month, with the five-bedroom home changing hands for $2.9 million.

The 25-acre property on Concession Road 5 in the Fawks Nest Country Estates could be a steal for the new owners, with the selling price $350,000 under asking. The home listed for $3.5 million in June, with the price lowered to $3.25 million the next month to try and entice a sale.

The deal closed September 17.

The property, which backs onto the famed Wooden Sticks golf course, includes plenty of amenities, such as a spring-fed pond (with a two-bedroom cottage), a renovated barn, perennial gardens, tennis courts and two sheds.

Inside the home boasts a custom kitchen, indoor pool with sauna and a walk-out basement.

At #2 on the list of most expensive homes sold in Durham last month (compiled by real estate company Zoocasa) was a four-bedroom, six-bath home on Maitland Drive in Pickering that sold September 18 for $2.6 million – $185,000 under asking.

The custom home features 4,550 sq. ft. of living space with 10-foot ceilings and a chef-inspired kitchen with an oversized island and quartz counter tops.

Numbers three and four on the list were both in the north Pickering hamlet of Claremont. At #3 was a country estate on Acorn Lane that sold September 13 for $2,410,000 – just under asking. The four-bedroom, four-bath home has more than 6,000 sq. ft. of finished living space backing onto conservation land, offering comfort, convenience and a touch of elegance.

Number 4 is another luxury home in Claremont, this one a four-bedroom, five-bath estate on William Street that features modern upgrades inside and a double garden door walkout to a vast greenspace for entertaining outside. The home sold September 10 for $1,925,000.

Fifth on the list is a four-bedroom home open concept home (backing onto a creek) on Rockland Crescent in Whitby that sold for $1,625,000.
