Do we have the Omicron variant on the ropes? Wishful thinking for sure after a few days of improved numbers, but Durham Region is giving residents every opportunity to stay ahead of the curve with more than a dozen vaccination clinics lined up – for adults and children – for the rest of the week and the weekend.

There are 12-plus clinics tomorrow at the Oshawa Centre (former Sears location, lower level) from 9:30-3, and at the Pickering Smart Centre (former Winners location) at 1899 Brock Road from 9:30 to 7:30. Both clinics will be open Thursday as well, with Oshawa open from 10:30 to 8:30 and Pickering from 10:30 to 7:30. There is also a vaccine clinic on Thursday in Uxbridge at the Sandford Community Centre from 10:30-12:15 pm.

The Audley Recreation Centre in Ajax is hosting a clinic for 12-plus Friday from 10:30-12:15 and the Whitby Smart Centre at 4160 Baldwin Street (Walmart Plaza, north-east side) will host one as well for the same time period.

There are three clinics open Saturday for 12-plus: Ajax and Whitby from 5:45 pm to 7:30 pm; and Scugog (Nestleton Community Centre) from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm.

For children aged 5-11, who receive the Pfizer-BioNTech paediatric COVID-19 vaccine, there are clinics every day through the weekend at the Oshawa location, including:

  • Wednesday 3-7:30
  • Thursday 3-8:30
  • Friday 10:30-8:30
  • Saturday & Sunday 9:30-7:30

Other clinics specifically for children include Uxbridge and Clarington on Thursday (both 1:30-8:30), Pickering on Friday from 10:30-8:30 and Pickering and Whitby on Saturday, both from 9:30-4:30.

There is a second Pickering location – Dunbarton High School – which will host a vaccine clinic for children this Sunday from 9:30 to 6:30.

All vaccine clinics will be by appointment only.

More than 86 per cent of all Durham residents 12 and up have received at least two doses of the vaccine and just under 48 per cent of those aged 5-11 have recived their first dose, with 3.3 per cent fully vaccinated.
