Clarington and the Royal Canadian Legion (Branch 178) will mark the reopening of the newly renovated Veterans’ Square in Bowmanville Tuesday with a commemorative ceremony.
The newly transformed space now features five flag poles, raised gardens, accessible seating, paved pathways, a service animal relief area and several mobility device charging stations. The upgrades have created a more accessible, vibrant and welcoming space and provide more opportunities for the community to honour those who served.
The renovations had been ongoing since May and Clarington officials promised a new “vibrant and welcoming” space for people of all abilities would be completed in time for the Remembrance Day ceremonies in November.
Veterans’ Square, located at the Municipal Administrative Centre at 40 Temperance Street in Bowmanville, hosts civic events and is the focal point of Clarington’s Remembrance Service.
Temperance Street will be closed from King Street to Church Street from noon to approximately 2 p.m. on October 15 to accommodate the ceremony. Metered parking will be available on nearby streets and additional parking will be available in municipal lots.
