Victims and suspect identified in fatal shooting in Oshawa

Police have released the identities of the two people shot and killed in Oshawa this afternoon. A suspect known to both victims has also been arrested.

At 12:35 p.m., Durham Regional Police responded to reports of gunshots near Jane Avenue and Glenforest Street.

Upon arrival, they found a 42-year-old man who had been shot. Despite efforts to take him to the hospital, the man died.

Information at the scene led officers to a second house on Glenforest Street. Inside, they discovered a 42-year-old woman who had also been shot. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 30-year-old man who was reportedly at the second home was taken into custody without incident.

Police say the shooting is not domestic-related, and the motive behind the murders is still under investigation.

The names of those involved have not been released.

“Our thoughts remain with the families affected by this tragedy,” police said in a statement. “We will provide further information as it becomes available.”

Authorities are urging anyone with cellphone, dashcam, surveillance footage, or individuals who may have information about the incident to contact Detective Dorego of the Homicide Unit at 905-579-1520 ext. 5319.
