VIDEO: Ajax man dead in roll-over on Highway 401

An Ajax man is dead after a dramatic roll-over crash on the Highway 401 shoulder.

The driver, 38, was headed down the highway in a Toyota Corolla at nearly 200 km/h shortly before 5 a.m. this morning, according to the OPP. When he tried to exit off the eastbound ramp at Holt Road in Clarington, he lost control of the car.

He hit the ditch and climbed the hill on the side of the road. the car rolled over several times.

The OPP Whitby branch, which is responsible for Highway 401 through Durham Region, responded to the scene and shut the area down.

The driver, who the OPP did not name, was declared dead at the scene. The OPP concluded their investigation hours later and have since reopened the ramp.
