VIDEO: Serious damages to businesses after fire breaks out at strip plaza in Ajax

A fire occurred this morning at a commercial property strip in Ajax’s south end which caused damages to five units as firefighters battled heavy flames and smoke to extinguish the blaze.

On Sunday (Aug. 6) at approximately 9:30 a.m., Durham Regional Police and Ajax Fire & Emergency Services responded to fire at 195 Westney Rd. S.

According to firefighters, when they had arrived on scene they observed flames and heavy smoke on the property. The surrounding units in the building were affected by the fire.

Some of businesses that were impacted by the fire offered automotive services.

Fire crew confirm that no one was injured as a result of the fire.

A drone video captured by Colin Williamson hovers over the building which shows the extensive damage that the fire caused, especially to one area of the structure, which appears to be burned to a char as firefighters continue to control the blaze with a water hose.

It is unknown the root causes of the fire, as police are still investigating.
