Wanted man known to frequent Durham Region arrested

A man with a long rap sheet who is known to frequent Durham Region has been arrested.
Derek Powell, 54, is serving a seven-and-a-half-year long-term supervision order for assault with a weapon, two counts of threatening death and bodily harm, two counts of forcible confinement, two counts of assaulting police, mischief and four parole violations.
The OPP alleges he went on the lam on Feb. 27, breaching his supervision orders. They announced a Canada-wide warrant for Powell’s arrest. They noted he is known to frequent Durham, Peterborough, Simcoe County, York Region and the GTA.
The next day the OPP announced Powell had been arrested in Peterborough.
