Weapon found during vehicle search at outdoor party in industrial area of Ajax

A search of a vehicle “parked suspiciously” at an outdoor party in an industrial area in Ajax Sunday night discovered a handgun, though the occupants of the car had disappeared by the time police arrived.
Durham Police searched the area but did not locate the suspects.
West Division officers conducted a liquor license check at the large party near Monarch Avenue and Bayly St. W. at 10:20 a.m.
Police were there to ensure the party had a was properly licenced and that no patrons were operating any vehicles while impaired. While checking the sobriety of drivers, officers saw two men sitting in a black Ford SUV that was ‘parked suspiciously.’
The two suspects exited the vehicle and left the area on foot, police said, leaving one of the vehicle doors open. Officers found open liquor containers and executed a search and found the gun on the floor mat near the door left ajar.

This was the first of two handguns found during traffic stops in Whitby and Ajax during a period of just 2.5 hours Sunday night into Monday morning.
