Is Monday January 3 a holiday?

The short answer is no, but it is a stat for most workers because New Year’s Day falls on a Saturday so many people will have the day off. But while many business, factories and offices around Durham may close on Monday or operate on reduced hours to give their staff the statutory holiday, it is business as usual for most other places.

Government offices, for example, will be closed but most recreational facilities will open.
