Family Day in Hamilton in 2024: What’s open and closed

Is Monday January 3 a holiday?

The short answer is no, but it is a stat for most workers because New Year’s Day falls on a Saturday so many people will have the day off. But while many business, factories and offices around Durham may close on Monday or operate on reduced hours to give their staff the statutory holiday, it is business as usual for most other places.

Government offices, for example, will be closed but most recreational facilities will open.

Here then, is what’s open and closed in Durham Region on January 3, 2022.

  • Most, if not all convenience stores
  • Most drug stores (best to call ahead to be sure)
  • Starbucks, Tim Horton’s and most other coffee houses
  • Most restaurants will be open. (best to call ahead to make sure your favourite is open)
  • Breweries and cannabis stores will resume regular hours
  • Ski resorts will be open for business
  • Most recreational facilties, such as arenas and community centres
  • Many libraries will be open

GO Trains and buses and DRT Pulse buses will be running on a regular schedule

As Christmas Day and New Years Day fall on Saturdays, garbage, blue box and recycling schedules will not be affected

Transfer stations will be closed. The stations, used for large water drop-offs, will be closed for most of the holidays, including December 24-28 and January 1-3
