This year, Labour Day falls on Monday, September 2 in Oshawa, Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Clarington and the rest of Durham Region.

Originally declared to honour hard-working men and women and give them a day of rest, it is now just another work day (albeit with extra pay) for many in the restaurant and tourist sector.

Durham Region Labour Council will host the annual Labour Day Picnic at Memorial Park to recognize the contributions of workers, with music, children’s entertainment and face painting, hotdogs and ice-cream.

Open:

  • Many restaurants, especially those with patios. Call ahead to be sure.
  • Movie theatres
  • Camp Samac outdoor pool in Oshawa will have free swims (1-3, 3:30-5:30, 6-7:30) and Delpark Homes Centre will also be open for swimming, with regular admission. Ajax Memorial Pool will also be open for public swimming.
