Whitby’s Civic Recreation Centre (CRC) will get new a change room and several other upgrades when renovations start this spring.

The Town’s stated goal is, “to create more modern, efficient and accessible change room spaces.”

As result the CRC will get a universal change room with 22 stalls, 100 lockers, 12 baby change stations, 19 showers and 10 showers and four bathrooms.

Halls are being made wider to make room for strollers and wheelchairs and a unisex and accessible washroom will be added upstairs. Existing facilities, such as the men’s and women’s bathroom and staff change rooms will also be upgraded.

A new multi-use program area and upgrades to the safety systems are also on the to-do list.

The town expects the renovation to take most of 2022, beginning in the spring and concluding in the fall. The change rooms will be closed for the duration.

The $5 million project all three levels of government. The federal government committed $1.9 million through the Invest in Canada plan. The Province added a $1.6 million grant and the Town invested $1.3 million in the project.

The town is asking for community feedback regarding the project. Residents can complete an online form to share their thoughts until November 1.
