A Whitby man is $675,000 richer after scratching a Cash for Life lotto ticket.

Christopher Watt, 51, bought his ticket from the Baldwin St. Shell gas station but didn’t play it right away. “I bought this ticket one night and played it the next morning when I realized I was a winner. I was tired and half asleep, so I didn’t really believe what I was seeing,” he told the OLG, “had to scratch my eyes a few times and looked harder.”

He immediately called his wife to share the good news but “She didn’t believe me so I video called her to show her. She was over the moon. I think she was more excited than I was,” he said, “There wasn’t much sleep these past few days with all the excitement.”

While his win meant he could receive $1,000 a week for life, Watt instead elected to get the lump sum payment of $675,000. He’s going to put the money towards buying a bigger house and family vacations. “This will help us out in life. It feels amazing to win,” he said.

Cash for Life players have a 1 in 3.46 chance of winning any prize. Tickets are available for $4.
