A Whitby man driving with a loaded gun is facing eight different charges, including stunt driving and five firearms offences.

The 35 year-old was spotted speeding through a construction zone near Harmony Road North and Adelaide Avenue East in Oshawa early Saturday morning. Police say the vehicle was travelling 90 km/hr in a 50 km/hr zone.

The officer pulled the vehicle over and, suspecting the driver was impaired, asked him to submit to a breathalyzer test. The driver refused to provide a proper sample and was subsequently arrested. The gun was found inside the vehicle.

Mayuran Sriskandarajah of Westfield Drive in Whitby has been charged with Stunt Driving; Refuse to Comply with Demand; and Fail to Comply with Release Order. The five firearms charges are: Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm; Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Car; Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm Knowing it is Unauthorized; Possession of a Loaded Prohibited Firearm; and Careless Storage of a Firearm.

He was held for a bail hearing and his vehicle was impounded.
