A Whitby man has been charged with allegedly luring a 16-year-old to a meeting via the internet.
According to York Regional Police, a man began to speak with someone he believed was 16 years old through an unspecified social media platform in September. Police specified the exchanges were for a sexual purpose.
The York Internet Child Exploitation unit launched an investigation with assistance from their sister unit in Peel Regional Police. The two services worked together to identify a suspect; Timothy Baulk, 52 of Whitby.
They arrested Baulk on charges of child luring and making sexually explicit material available to a minor. Investigators believe he used the pseudonyms “Paul,” “Gymteacher” and “Gymteacher1.” Baulk has since been released from custody with conditions. He will make a court appearance in Newmarket on Oct. 19.
York police have called on any further victims or witnesses to call the ICE unit at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7078 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS.
