As snow once again falls on Durham Region, it’s easy to forget that spring is indeed on the way. Despite the March flurries, Whitby is planning ahead for warmer weather by opening registration for its spring recreation programs.

Whitby is set to offer over 600 programs this spring to provide numerous ways for residents of all ages and abilities to stay active and healthy such as basketball, swimming lessons and yoga classes.

Today, March 1, Whitby opened it’s ActiveNet online resource for Whitbians to peruse the hundreds of programs, broken down into eight main categories.

These categories include, Children’s Programs, Youth Programs, Aquatic Leadership Programs, Aquafit Programs, Swim Lessons, Adult Programs, 55+ Programs, and Station Gallery Programs.

Registration for these programs opens in three stages. Firstly, on March 16 all recreation programs and swimming lessons will be open for registration at 9 a.m for residents of Whitby. Next, all aquafit programs will open on March 17, also at 9 a.m.

While Whitby residents get first dibs, non-residents will also be able to get in on the fun. Registration will open for out-of-towners on March 23 again at 9 a.m.

Whitby has lifted all proof-of-vaccination requirements and capacity limits at recreation centres, following the Provincial lift of COVID-19 restrictions. Attendees will still have to self-screen for symptoms and mask requirements remain in effect until further notice.

Residents of Whitby and beyond can register online to take part in these recreation programs.
