Three goals in thirty seconds in the third period was the difference for the Whitby Warriors in an 11-10 Day 2 victory at the 2022 Minto Cup in Brampton.
Gabriel Sorichetti scored back-to-back goals before Adam Poitras added a third in that span to turn an 9-7 deficit into an 10-9 lead over the B.C. champion Victoria Shamrocks.
The two sides would then trade goals before Brock Haley scored the dagger with 3:17 to play.
Sorichetti and Poitras each collected hattricks for the winners, with Haley and Jake Darlinson scoring twice each and Lucas Littlejohn adding a single. Haley added four assists for a six point night for the Warriors.
Whitby is now 2-0 and will face Ontario rival Toronto Beaches (2-0) tonight (8 p.m.) with the winner booking a ticket into the Minto Cup best-of-three final. The loser gets a second chance in a semi-final against the winner of tonight’s other match between Victoria and the St. Albert Miners (5 p.m.), who are both 0-2.
Toronto assembled a 4-1 first period lead before hanging on for a 9-8 victory over the Miners in yesterday’s other match.
All games are being played at Brampton’s CAA Centre.
