Fisheries and Oceans Canada will begin repairs of the Whitby West Pier on January 1 to fix damage along a 27 m section on the channel side.

The project will involve the demolition, removal and disposal of the damaged concrete deck. Workers will then re-align the damaged sheet pilings that support the pier.

Following this, they will install new tiebacks and wales, fill voids with rock and pour a new cement pier. During construction, the  parking lot neighbouring the Lion’s Promenade Park and trails in the area will be closed to the public.

The project began in July 2021. An environmental survey concluded in August found the project, “is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects,” per the Ministry.
