Woman, 25, killed in crash with transport truck in Ajax

A 25-year-old woman is dead and police are investigating following a violent collision involving a transport truck that spilled its cargo on Highway 401 in Ajax.

The crash happened around 8:45 a.m. on Monday (Oct. 23) in the eastbound lanes of the 401 near Lake Ridge Road according to the OPP Highway Safety Division.

According to reports, the driver of a car was rear-ended by a transport truck after slowing down in the live lane. A photo from the crash scene shared by police shows a tractor-trailer on its side with its cargo spilled onto the roadway.

Police say a 25-year-old female was rushed to hospital with serious injuries where she was pronounced dead. The identity of the victim has not been confirmed.

All lanes of Highway 401 were closed in both directions for several hours, but police had cleared the scene by around 6:30 p.m.
