Woman ejected from car dead following rollover crash in Pickering: police

One woman is dead and charges have been laid against a Quebec man following a rollover crash in Pickering, police say.

The single-vehicle collision happened around 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday when police say a black 2018 Audi sedan was headed southbound on Brock Road, Durham Regional Police say.

That’s when the driver “lost control” and went off the road and crashed into a large tree, investigators say.

Four people were inside the car and two occupants were thrown from the vehicle, which rolled over in the crash.

One of the ejected occupants was a woman between the ages of 18 and 22 who has since been pronounced dead, police say.

Investigators are still working to identify the female victim.

Police say two other passengers were rushed to hospital and were in serious but stable condition as of Wednesday evening.

The driver, a 20-year-old man from Quebec, also suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was later arrested and charged with numerous offences.

Sohaib Abdallah Lounes, 20, of Quebec has been charged with dangerous operation causing death, two counts of dangerous operation cause bodily harm, possession of electronic device for the purpose of committing motor vehicle theft, and possession of break-and-enter instruments.

The crash closed roads in the area for several hours and police are asking anyone with information on the victim or the crash to contact investigators.
