A woman who was standing in a live lane of traffic while trying to boost her car was struck and killed on Highway 401 just after midnight Thursday by “one or more vehicles.”
Ontario Provincial Police say the woman and a man had pulled their Ford Mustang onto the left shoulder of the eastbound lanes of the highway approaching Mill Street in Clarington and were attempting to boost their disabled vehicle when the victim was struck.
The highway was closed for several hours for the investigation.
OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said next of kin have been notified, calling the accident a “very tragic outcome.”
