Woman struck and killed by City waste truck in downtown Oshawa

A woman is dead after being hit by a City of Oshawa garbage truck in the downtown core Tuesday morning.

Durham Police say the woman, 57, was rushed to hospital after being struck by the truck around 8:10 a.m. near Bond and Centre streets. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The truck driver, a 53-year-old Toronto man, was turning right from Centre Street to Bond St. W. when his vehicle struck the woman. The driver remained at the scene and a portion of Bond Street was closed for several hours for the investigation.
