The numbers are not yet in for the entire region but if the results from the Labour Day RIDE program in Oshawa are any indication it appears drivers are finally getting the message about the dangers of drunk driving.

A tweet from Durham Regional Police Central East Division declared that officers stopped 350 vehicles in Oshawa Monday night and zero impaired charges were laid.

Small sample size but DRPS was pleased with the numbers. “Thank you for ensuring a safe ending to the Labour Day weekend!”

In contrast, on the August Civic Holiday long weekend 1,703 vehicles were stopped by police and 49 roadside tests were conducted. Four suspensions of three, seven or 30-days were administered and ten impaired driving charges were laid.
