An unidentified man is wanted after allegedly attempting to carjack a woman in Oshawa.

The victim was sitting in her car near Wentworth Street West and Cedar Street shortly after 5 a.m. on June 14. The area is home to two business plazas, several apartment buildings and a neighbourhood of detached houses.

As she sat in her car, a man approached and tried to pull on the door handle. He then pulled a pistol on the woman and demanded she leave the car. However, she managed to speed off and call Durham Police. She was not physically hurt. By the time officers arrived on scene, the suspect had fled.

Police describe the suspect as a white man between 25 and 30 years old. He stands about five-foot-eight and wore a ski mask and all-black clothes.

Anyone with information can call police at 1-888-579-1520 ext. or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

This is the third major act of violence in the neighbourhood this year. On Mother’s Day, a man allegedly stabbed his wife in a nearby apartment and back in January a teenager was charged with non-fatally shooting a man in the area.
